Materials Science Support Programmes

Our grants go directly to individuals through specific programmes or via institutions.  

Programme for which direct applications can be made are:

• The Royal Academy of Engineering Armourers & Brasiers Prize and Royal Society Armourers & Brasiers' Company Prize
• Travel Grants for Research Students
• School Science Grants
• Armourers & Brasiers Cambridge Forum

Grants given via universities include:

• Prizes for excellence and achievement at 25 universities
• Support for industrial or research experience for undergraduates

Grants are also given to partner organisations to support schools outreach and curriculum enrichment programmes that encourage uptake of subjects which will help students access careers in Materials Science.

Recent highlights of our grantmaking include

• The Armourers & Brasiers' Chair in Materials Science at Imperial College London endowed to mark our 700th Anniversary in 2022
• Grant to the Royal Micoscopical Society to purchase a scanning electron microscope to extend the successful microscope loan scheme run by The Institute for Research in Schools
