The Armourers & Brasiers' Company is now one of the leading charities in the UK supporting metallurgy and materials science. Grants are made from the Armourers & Brasiers' Gauntlet Trust, on the advice of the Company's Material Sciences Committee.

Conference and placement travel grants for PhD students

In association with AWE, Rolls-Royce, Tata Steel, TWI, Morgan Advanced Materials and Materials Processing Institute, the Armourers and Brasiers' Company runs travel grant programmes for PhD students in Materials Science.  This scheme makes funds available for travel to conferences for the presentation of research papers, and for travel to industrial placements.  There is a finite budget for this funding programme beginning on 1st April each year.  See below for applicant's guidelines.

Special need and hardship grants

In exceptional circumstances, the Armourers and Brasiers will consider applications for grants from talented PhD students to mitigate financial hardship.  Grants are intended to help with living costs of the final few weeks of study and not for essential research equipment.  Any such application must be accompanied by a supporting statement from the applicant's supervisor.
